And, without further ado, the first blogger of the month for 2017 is Dean B from Little Steps! Let’s get to know a little bit more about her, shall we?
- Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Dean and I blog over at Little Steps. I used to work in the media before my life as a mum began. At the moment, I’m a part-time writer/full time mum to a six-year-old little girl whom I refer to as Little T on the blog. Together with the husband, dog and cat, we live in a 400-year-old cottage in North Cornwall.
- When did you start blogging and why?
I’ve been blogging on and off for more than a decade now. But decided to put up Little Steps in May of 2012 as a means to chronicle our lives in a small village by the sea. It was also around that time when I felt frustrated with freelance writing, being offered peanuts and thought that maybe it would be a good idea to try to monetise my blog. I was wrong of course. While I do occasionally get paid good money, most of the time it’s really reviews, which T loves especially if we are offered toys.
- What is unique about yourself and your blog?
That’s a difficult question to answer if I’m honest, since I have a lot in common with other bloggers who write about country living and motherhood. I do however also talk about our dog Doc and cat named Boots (although I wouldn’t consider that different either) 😉
A blogger once mentioned that I have a unique voice, I’m still trying to figure out what she meant by that 😉
- When you’re not blogging, you’re … ?
I’m either doing never-ending chores or reading books. We are great book lovers in our family. Running out of bookshelves space is a constant fear.
- Why should people visit your blog?
I’m really bad at selling myself or putting my blog out there. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I’m never going to make it as a “big blogger” whatever that means. With Little Steps, what you see and read, is what it really is all about. If you find it boring, I’m afraid real life is boring 😉
- What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
That guy you thought you really loved? You never did… really 😉 It’s all in your head.
- Tell me something that most people don’t know about you.
I once did on-cam reporting. I couldn’t stand my own voice, so I quit.
- And finally, just for fun, what is your favourite colour and why?
Physicists’ say that white isn’t a colour because it doesn’t have specific wavelength, but I love it. I love white walls, white furniture, and plain white tops. To me everything just looks really neat when it’s devoid of colour 😉
