Don’t call me stupid

I’m a big believer in letting people think what they want to think and do what they want to do, providing it’s not hurting anyone.

I suppose that makes me quite a liberal person. I don’t have a problem with anyone doing something that they want, or believing in something that they want. I think that’s what makes our world wonderful.

However, what does bother me, is when others try to convince you that your beliefs are wrong. For example, I’m an athiest. I don’t believe in God, nor do I believe in anything spiritual. Karma for example – that, in my opinion, is something that people say to make themselves feel better when someone has upset or hurt them.

Others may disagree and that’s fine.

I don’t believe there is any higher power, or anybody to determine whether we should go somewhere good or bad in the afterlife. I just think that there’s nothing. Like it was before I was born.

Admittedly, it’s a scary thought. Something that I don’t like thinking about myself. I often try to push away thoughts of death when they come around because they frighten me. So, I understand that some people might find comfort in the thought that there is an afterlife. And that’s fine.

What I don’t think is fine, is thinking that because someone doesn’t think the same way as you, that you’re stupid. No matter what you believe in, you are not stupid. Believing in a God, or not believing in a God, is not a way to determine someone’s intellect.

I know that it might be difficult to understand why people think different things. I get that. But it’s not fair to try to belittle people who don’t think the same way that you do and call them stupid.

Try approaching subjects such as this with an open mind, and know that it’s fine to agree to disagree.
