It’s hard when your family live far away …

The same week I had my operation, my brother and sister came to Pembrokeshire, all the way from Dubai.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that we got in touch. Cerys and Ceirion are my half brother and sister, and for reasons that nobody can help, we didn’t get to know each other until recently.

I remember getting in touch and meeting up for the first time in years. I was a little concerned that they wouldn’t like me, and that I was going to be thought of as “the other one” in the family. But, I’m happy to say that it’s not the case – I certainly don’t think of them like that anyway!

I’m really glad we all get on so well and enjoy each other’s company. I hope they enjoy mine, anyway!

One of the get togethers we had last year.

We had made plans to have a few get togethers over the summer, so I could take Cei out for a pint for his 18th birthday, and so that Cerys and I could go horse riding together again – amongst other things.

But, unfortunately, those plans were scuppered, thanks to my operation.

Thankfully, we didn’t let it get in the way, and I managed to spend some lovely time with my wonderful little brother and sister!

The first time we had a little get together, I was pretty much bed ridden. It was the week after my operation, and I was staying at Jill’s house – I couldn’t look after myself, let alone Esme, so Jill kindly looked after us whilst Al was at work. She’s a star!

So, Cerys and Ceirion came to visit me at Jill’s house. Jill grabbed them a couple of chairs, and they sat with me in the bedroom, telling me all about their visit to America.

Cerys had an acting audition in Los Angeles, and while they were there decided to have a look around.

They’d been to Sea World, Universal Studios, the Grand Canyon and San Diego Zoo, and showed me all of the beautiful photos they’d taken.

I was brought some beautiful sunflowers and a cup from Sea World with an orca on top. And Esme, and you may have seen from a previous post, was given a panda, which we named Phil. Ha!

It wasn’t long before Ceirion’s beautiful lady, Ginevra came to visit from Dubai. We all had another get together a few days later, and had another lovely catch up!

Aww! Aren't they so cute!?

In between feeling jealous of Ginevra’s figure and in desperate need of make-up, we talked mostly about Esme, who wasn’t too sure about going anywhere other than my lap, with my phone in her hand so she could watch the awful ‘Daddy Finger’ video.

When I was able to drive again, Esme and I went to visit them instead. We had a brief chat with Cerys and Ceirion before Cei had to shoot off. We managed to get a few photos in before he went, but afterwards, Cerys and I thought that seeing as there wasn’t much else to do, we headed for the park!

I didn’t have a pram with me because I wasn’t planning on walking anywhere, but the park wasn’t far away so I thought it would be okay to walk. Esme walked next to Cerys, pretty much the whole way there. It was good really, because I had a great opportunity to take some photographs!

Esme loved the swings in particular, and she smiled and waved whilst being pushed as Cerys and I talked about how much we love Linkin Park, and how I think she should listen to Skillet.

Esme also really enjoyed playing on the slide with Cerys at the top, and me at the bottom!

It was soon nearing the end of their stay in Pembrokeshire, so Cerys and Ceirion came to visit the day before they were due to leave.

Esme spent the majority of her time watching videos on Uncle Cei’s lap, while Cerys and I discussed good was to get a flat belly, and what exercises are best for becoming toned!

Cerys is a talented gymnast, and is therefore rather flexible. So, she showed me how she can go from standing to doing the splits on the floor in (pretty much) the blink of an eye!

We took as many photos as we had time for, and said our goodbyes.

It’s hard when your family live far away, and it doesn’t matter how much time I spend with Cerys and Ceirion – it will never be enough. It will be a long time before I see them again, and I can’t wait for next time.

Miss them already x
